🌱 Solace Life is currently in its founding beta. These terms are under review by legal counsel and will be finalized before public launch. We publish them now because you deserve to see them.
1. What Solace Life Is — and Is Not
Solace Life is a digital service for storing and sharing copies of personal information: photos, videos, voice recordings, written messages, and digital copies of documents you choose to save ("Content").
Solace Life is NOT:
- A will, trust, or estate planning instrument. Nothing you do in Solace Life — including choosing which family members can see which documents — transfers ownership of money, property, assets, or belongings to anyone. Access settings control who can view copies of information, and nothing more.
- A substitute for legal, financial, or medical advice. Consult licensed professionals for estate planning, financial decisions, and healthcare directives.
- An official record. Documents stored in Solace Life are copies for the convenience of you and your family. Original documents, wherever they are held, remain the authoritative versions.
2. Vault Sharing Is Informational Only
When your vault becomes visible to your designated family members (the "release"), they receive viewing access to copies of information — nothing else. A family member's ability to see a document (for example, a property title, bank account details, or a will) does not mean, and must not be interpreted to mean, that they have been given the underlying asset, named a beneficiary or executor, or that any transfer of ownership was intended. Any actual transfer of assets is governed exclusively by applicable law and valid legal instruments outside of Solace Life.
3. Trusted Contacts, Emergency Contacts, and Release
- You designate trusted contacts and choose which sections of your vault each person may see. Sections from which you remove everyone remain sealed and are shown to no one.
- Designated contacts must accept their role by email confirmation before it takes effect.
- Vault release is triggered by your designated contacts confirming your passing (or by your missed check-in escalation process, where enabled). You acknowledge that Solace Life relies on the good faith of the people you designate. Solace Life is not responsible for false, premature, or delayed confirmations made by your designated contacts, and does not independently verify death.
- Release makes Content visible according to your settings as they existed at the time of release. It is your responsibility to keep your access choices current.
4. Your Responsibilities
- You confirm you have the right to store and share all Content you upload.
- You are responsible for the accuracy and currency of stored information.
- You will not store content that is unlawful or that you have no right to share.
- You are responsible for maintaining access to the email account associated with your Solace Life account.
5. Security and Its Limits
Certain sensitive fields (passwords, account numbers, private notes) are encrypted on your device before upload. You acknowledge that encryption keys for these fields exist only on your device(s); if your device is lost or reset, encrypted fields may become permanently unreadable, including to your family after release. No system is perfectly secure, and you store Content at your own discretion.
6. Membership, Availability, and Your Family's Access
- One membership ($99/year) covers your account. Your family never pays to receive what you leave them. Recipients' access to Content shared with them is free; creating a vault of their own is a separate membership.
- Following a confirmed release, shared Content remains available to your designated family members at no cost to them for at least twenty-five (25) years. Scheduled deliveries continue to be sent as you planned them. Archived material may take up to 48 hours to retrieve.
- You may export or delete your Content at any time while your account is active; your family may export shared Content after release.
- Final billing terms — trial, renewal, grace periods, and lapse protections — will be detailed here before public launch. Founding direction: a confirmed passing freezes the account in legacy mode regardless of billing status, and the vault is never locked during a payment grace period.
7. AI Assistant ("Sol")
Solace Life includes an automated assistant called Sol that answers questions and helps you navigate and use the app. You acknowledge and agree that:
- Sol is software, not a person, and can be wrong. Its responses are generated automatically and may be inaccurate, incomplete, or out of date, and Sol can misdescribe how a feature works. Always confirm anything important directly in the app before relying on it — in particular, verify who can see your vault using the in-app "Who Can See My Documents" controls rather than relying on Sol's description.
- Sol does not provide professional advice. Nothing Sol says is legal, financial, medical, tax, or other professional advice, and it must not be relied on as such. For those matters, consult a licensed professional.
- Sol does not change your agreement or your settings. Sol's statements are informational only and do not modify these Terms, your access designations, or any other agreement. If Sol's description ever conflicts with the app's actual behaviour, your saved settings, or these Terms, the app and these Terms control.
- How Sol works. To generate replies, the messages you send to Sol and limited context about your account may be processed by third-party AI service providers acting on our behalf. Please do not share anything with Sol that you would not want processed for this purpose.
- No warranty. Sol is provided "as is." To the maximum extent permitted by law, Solace Life is not liable for any action taken, or not taken, in reliance on Sol's output, and the limitations of liability in these Terms apply to Sol.
8. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law: Solace Life is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. Scheduled deliveries depend on accurate, current recipient contact details — a scheduled message can only be delivered if the recipient's email is valid and current at the time of delivery, and Solace Life is not responsible for non-delivery caused by outdated, changed, or unreachable recipient contact information. Recipients are responsible for keeping their details up to date (we remind them with each delivery), and the further in the future a delivery is scheduled, the greater the chance details change. Solace Life, its owners, and its operators are not liable for disputes among family members arising from Content or access settings; reliance on stored information; actions taken by designated contacts; loss of Content due to device-held encryption keys; or indirect, incidental, or consequential damages. Total aggregate liability is limited to the amounts you paid for the service in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim.
9. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify Solace Life against claims arising from your Content, your access designations, or your breach of these terms, including claims by family members or third parties regarding entitlement to assets referenced in stored documents.
10. Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of British Columbia, Canada.
11. Changes
We may update these terms. Material changes will be notified in-app or by email at least 30 days before taking effect.
